About Restaurant Week

For any diner who has ever dreamed about fine dining without breaking the bank, Restaurant Week is that dream… come true. Modeled on similar events in other cities, this is seven days of good food and good fun. Diners get to choose from each participating restaurant’s special prix fixe menu and enjoy three courses— typically an appetizer, an entree, and dessert— for just $26. (Beverages, tax, and gratuity not included.)

Charlottesville Restaurant Week:

• January 25-31 and

• July 12-18, 2010.

How to do Restaurant Week

BY COURTENEY STUART

The very first Charlottesville Restaurant Week had foodies buzzing and tables filling up faster than a top chef can slice a ripe tomato. Ditto for this second one in 2010. Getting in on the fun is easy– but it requires a little planning. Here’s how:

Step 1: Mark your calendar for Monday, January 25 through Sunday, January 31.

Step 2: Peruse the menus from the participating restaurants to decide which ones suit your fancy. With eighteen places participating, you can’t visit one every night!

Step 2: Call each restaurant directly to make your reservation, and mention that you’re coming in for “Restaurant Week.” Reservations are first-come, first-served; and chefs report that interest has been running high, so don’t tarry.

Step 4: Please show up on time, and make sure you’re dressed to make your mama proud, since some of the participating establishments have dress codes.

Step 5: Make sure you order off the special “Restaurant Week” menu, as all of the participating restaurants will also offer their regular— i.e. more expensive— menu. (Everyone will be dismayed, and you might end up washing dishes, if you end up ordering the $45 flaming surf-and-turf that’s not part of the special prix fixe menu.)

Step 6: Savor your meal, and when paying your bill, please remember that drinks, tax, and tips are not included.

We ate at the Boar’s Head and had a fabulous meal. We celebrated a friend’s birthday. We will be back in July to celebrate another friend’s birthday and are looking forward to trying another one of Charlottesville’s fine restaurants.

Stabe, thank you for saying that. Floozy, if you wanted to insult something, please make sure you have your facts straight first. Rude.

The restaurants didn’t have their new menus up for quite some time - most still had last year’s menu. C&O wasn’t the only one by far - you probably just didn’t notice. You didn’t make a difference and you’re being rude. If you don’t have somethiing nice to say, Floozy, don’t say anything at all.

Wow.. an updated menu from C&O… I feel like I made a difference.

Oh and someone should tell the folks at C&O that posting last year’s menu shows a complete lack of imagination. They could at at least rewrite it and change the date, even if their apathy prevents them from offering some new dishes. Poor show.

I see the names of the restaurants, but not dates or times. Would like more info, be glad to help promote it on my sites. Do you just link to the restaurants participating?

Sounds like a wonderful idea! We enjoyed restaurant week while living in London in 2008. It gave us the chance to try some excellent restaurants within the confines of our budget (especially with a 1:2 exchange rate at the time).
Question: Will diners make reservations through cvilleyum or directly with the participating restaurants?

Snowy weather extends RestWeek

January 31, 2010

Due to the wintery weather, most Restaurant Week participants are extending Restaurant Week through Wednesday, February 3rd in order to reschedule canceled reservations and to add in reservations for those who were not able to get a reservation last week.  Please contact the restaurants directly for details on changing your current reservation or making a new reservation.  Thanks!

Hook editor jabbers about RestWeek on The Corner

January 27, 2010

Hook editor and Charlottesville Restaurant Week launcher (the charter restaurants really founded the thing) went on 106.1FM The Corner on Tuesday morning to talk with Brad Savage about some of what’s in store for eager diners and how Spencer and his wife discovered Restaurant Week in New York City a year ago. They even played one of the humorous radio spots jointly created by the Hook and the Corner.
