About Restaurant Week

For any diner who has ever dreamed about fine dining without breaking the bank, Restaurant Week is that dream… come true. Modeled on similar events in other cities, this is seven days of good food and good fun. Diners get to choose from each participating restaurant’s special prix fixe menu and enjoy three courses— typically an appetizer, an entree, and dessert— for just $26. (Beverages, tax, and gratuity not included.)

Charlottesville Restaurant Week:

• July 12-18, 2010.

How to do Restaurant Week

BY COURTENEY STUART

The very first Charlottesville Restaurant Week had foodies buzzing and tables filling up faster than a top chef can slice a ripe tomato. Ditto for this one in July 2010. Getting in on the fun is easy– but it requires a little planning. Here’s how:

Step 1: Mark your calendar for Monday, July 12th through Sunday, July 18th.

Step 2: Peruse the menus from the participating restaurants to decide which ones suit your fancy. With twenty places participating, you can’t visit one every night!

Step 2: Call each restaurant directly to make your reservation, and mention that you’re coming in for “Restaurant Week.” Reservations are first-come, first-served; and chefs report that interest has been running high, so don’t tarry.

Step 4: Please show up on time, and make sure you’re dressed to make your mama proud, since some of the participating establishments have dress codes.

Step 5: Make sure you order off the special “Restaurant Week” menu, as all of the participating restaurants will also offer their regular— i.e. more expensive— menu. (Everyone will be dismayed, and you might end up washing dishes, if you end up ordering the $45 flaming surf-and-turf that’s not part of the special prix fixe menu.)

Step 6: Savor your meal, and when paying your bill, please remember that drinks, tax, and tips are not included.

Are the menus for the upcoming Restaurant Week up yet? I got a “page not found” message when I clicked the link on this page.

We ate at the Boar’s Head and had a fabulous meal. We celebrated a friend’s birthday. We will be back in July to celebrate another friend’s birthday and are looking forward to trying another one of Charlottesville’s fine restaurants.

Stabe, thank you for saying that. Floozy, if you wanted to insult something, please make sure you have your facts straight first. Rude.

The restaurants didn’t have their new menus up for quite some time - most still had last year’s menu. C&O wasn’t the only one by far - you probably just didn’t notice. You didn’t make a difference and you’re being rude. If you don’t have somethiing nice to say, Floozy, don’t say anything at all.

Wow.. an updated menu from C&O… I feel like I made a difference.

Oh and someone should tell the folks at C&O that posting last year’s menu shows a complete lack of imagination. They could at at least rewrite it and change the date, even if their apathy prevents them from offering some new dishes. Poor show.

I see the names of the restaurants, but not dates or times. Would like more info, be glad to help promote it on my sites. Do you just link to the restaurants participating?

Sounds like a wonderful idea! We enjoyed restaurant week while living in London in 2008. It gave us the chance to try some excellent restaurants within the confines of our budget (especially with a 1:2 exchange rate at the time).
Question: Will diners make reservations through cvilleyum or directly with the participating restaurants?

July 2010 Restaurant Week Feedback

July 15, 2010

Trying to decide what to order or where to book last minute reservations for Restaurant Week? Here is some feedback tidbits we have gathered from readers/customers on our site, facebook and twitter (#cvilleyum).  There are so many delicious offerings but these responses may help you decide exactly where to go and what to order.  Remember to keep updating us with feedback after your meals!

“C&O last night…superb! Everything!”

“Ate at Ventana Monday evening and it was delicious. Ate at Fossett’s Tuesday and almost went to heaven! Just ate at C&O and was superb as well. Looking forward to Old Mill Room tomorrow.  I must rave about Fossett’s. I almost died and went to heaven. I ordered the tomato salad, the beef, and the berry with lemon sorbet for dessert. The beef was the best I have EVER had. I can’t even explain how amazing this meal was.”

“Did the Aberdeen Barn on Tuesday. I’ve lived in C’ville for close to 40 years and if you haven’t eaten at the Barn at least once you should. If you like steak and Prime Rib it is a must!”

“Monday night we went to Brasserie Montiel and it was wonderful. I had the Spinach and Goat Cheese Salad - superb! One of the best spinach salads I have had. My wife had the Duck Confit and Savory Peach Upside Down Cake - and we both thought it was delicious with a very generous portion of duck. Duck can be greasy so I am not a big fan, but this was perfect. The main course of Paella and Argentinean Churrasco were both very good. I loved the Paella and the skewered mushrooms and tomatoes from the Churrasco. The Dark Chocolate Genache for desert was heavenly!!!”

“Had a fantastic, if a tad wasabi-crazy, meal at Bang! tonight - I had the sake-steamed shrimp followed by the Sesame-crusted Ahi.”

“So yum doesn’t even begin to describe how good the menu is at Fossett’s during Restaurant Week! ”

“Spiced chickpea cake at Horse&Hound quite delish, atop lightly sautéed sliced squash; companion’s ribeye was ample and tender.”

“Ten was delicious last night, especially the Hawaiian Walu.”

“We went to Aberdeen Barn last night. Wonderful food and service. I had never been before; now there is a good chance I’ll return someday. Restaurant Week is great because you can try new places.”

“Ten was amazing last night. So much food, which was surprising.”

“Just got back from the C&O. All 4 of us had a great time. The food was fabulous!!”

PB&J Fund selected to benefit from July Restaurant Week event

The PB&J Fund connects Charlottesville youth with the resources and knowledge necessary to help develop a healthy diet. By working with community partners to provide healthy meals and teach cooking habits, it aims to address kids’ nutritional needs at each stage of development. The PB&J Fund was created in the belief that a healthy diet should be easily accessible to all kids, just like the most famous and basic childhood food of peanut butter and jelly.

The PB&J Fund has programming in the city public schools and they work with both Children, Youth and Family Services and the Boys and Girls Club of Charlottesville/Albemarle.  Check out some of their fantastic programs and join us for Restaurant Week in July to help PB&J Fund with their mission!
